Skiing 2018

Image
We didn't get much snow this year and so when the snow fell on a public holiday, EVERYONE went to the slopes.  I mean, everyone in the entire Salt Lake Valley headed for the hills.  So many, in fact, that there were MAJOR slow downs and a lot of accidents.  UDOT reported over 50 slide offs and fender benders that morning between Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.  Luckily, with a little persistence we were able to make it up the hill.  Jess and Cole had a little harder time with Cole being called into work TWICE!  It was pretty crazy.  By the end of the day, Jess only got like three or four runs in.  The kids continue to amaze us with how quickly they pick up the sports and they all did a great job.  No one got hurt and we all stayed warm as we were prepared for the sub-zero temperatures.  And that's it!  Just one day of skiing this year.  ...

Not our best ski day ever, but still fun to hit the slopes for a little while on President's Day!

Skiing Solitude Slopes

Today was some fun family time.  It snowed all day and the sun rarely made an appearance but there weren't any crowds and no one got hurt!   Ryan is a cautious skier.   Evan is a little more confident and enjoys going through the trees and getting air on jumps.  I'm a fair weather skier mostly but I love that my family loves this sport that I enjoy so much.  I've noticed that I can really work on my endurance.  I used to be able to keep up with the boys but as they grow in age and ability on the ski slopes, I have a harder time keeping up my stamina to stay with them.  Skiing with diabetes can be a little challenging but I did pretty well today.   Colin is a good skier.  He's a great sport about it too.  He's been injured skiing a couple of times but he is learning and improving too, and his endurance is way better than mine.

Ski Day 3

The boys have like three Fridays and a Monday off this month so we thought we'd take advantage of the schedule and take go skiing as a family.  Colin got work off and we hit the slopes.  We're feeling pretty good on the slopes now.  The boys have been three times this year and once before and it is really amazing how quickly they pick it up.  I'm sorry if I say that every time.   Friday was a beautiful day for skiing.  It was COLD, about 18 degrees, but it was sunny and there weren't very many people at the resort.   We tried some harder runs this time and although there was some grumbling, but overall we did well with the difficulty.  I was having kind of a rough day with my blood sugars.  It's always frustrating when that happens, but by mid-day I had figured it out and was hitting my grove.  I'm glad I stuck it out, but I'm also glad I know how to listen to my body and know when things aren't right.   ...
