Happy Birthday Evan

Evan turns two today! He's two, and boy, through and through. He is funny, he makes us laugh all the time. He is active, constantly doing something. He is difficult too, throwing tantrums and getting frustrated with communicating with us. He is so much fun to have around. We enjoy his company and love having him as a part of our family. I've posted a lot about Evan lately, so maybe I'll tell you his birth story as some mommy bloggers do that when they post a birthday.

The nurses from Alta View called me the day before he was born to let me know that my c-section was scheduled for 7:30am, and that we needed to be at the hospital by 6:00am. So much for sleeping in! Grandma and Grandpa took Ryan the night before so that we wouldn't have to drop him off before the crack of dawn.

We arrived at the hospital that morning at 6:00 as directed and got all admitted. At about 7:00 they let us know that we were being bumped because of an emergency c-section that they needed to do ahead of us. I know I've had both my boys c-section but I rarely think of it as surgery. It's just the way I had my babies. When they bumped us back, I started getting really nervous. Just nervous about the surgery part of it all. I was so glad that Colin was able to be there with me, to help me through the emotions.

At around 8:00 they took us back to the operating room. The anesthesiologist came in and did his thing. He had me sit up as tall as I could, which was hard because I was so largely pregnant. He gave me the anesthesia and it was kind of difficult this time. Luckily I didn't get the shakes like with Ryan. However, the effects were almost worse the second time. I started feeling REALLY nauseous and couldn't shake it. They gave me some medication for that and then I got a tremendous headache and was crying for the pain of it. (I know that I wasn't in labor and it probably doesn't compare to going through contractions but it was still very painful). I was pretty scared at thtat point and Dr. Smith was right there. He told me I had a headache because my bood pressure had dropped due to all of the medication. He said I would feel better soon and I really did. Colin was great to help me through the whole surgery process. I think he was a little scared but he was strong so that I wasn't even more freaked out.

During the surgery I wasn't feeling very well but Colin was able to stay right with me and I think the excitement of delivery started to take over my body and I was feeling a lot better. There is a lot pulling, tugging, and pressure which is kind of good because it helped me know that my baby was coming. Colin got to watch Evan make his arrival. He cried a nice loud cry which helps to reassure you that the lungs are all good.

Our baby boy was born at 8:26 am. He weighed 8 pounds 10 ounces and was 21 inches long.

Here are my favorite pictures of Evan, each month of his 24 month life!
