Ryan's Arrow of Light

Image
We are so proud of Ryan for earning his Arrow of Light.   At his celebration ceremony and Pack Meeting he showed a few of the things that he has done in Cub Scouting to earn his Arrow of Light.  He showed his collection of rocks that he earned through doing the "Earth Rocks" pin.  When we went on our trip to Arches, Bryce, and Zion, Ryan did a lot of the work on this pin.  He also showed his Rain Gutter Regatta boats and his Space Derby Rocket.   Our amazing Cub Master invited a man from The Democratic Republic of the Congo to come speak to the boys about his country, culture, and customs.  He then demonstrated how to play a few drums and invited the boys to participate in a drum circle.   The following evening Ryan was invited into the Scout Troop and was presented with his red scout scarf.  Ryan really loves scouts and I love all of the wonderful things it is teaching him.

Warrior 5K

Ryan had spirit week this week at the Middle School.  I've joined the PTSA board at his school and it is different than elementary school but also really fun.  They culminated the week with a 5K.  I wasn't really sure if Ryan wanted to run or not, but he signed up at the last minute and did it.  He did pretty well too, I was proud of him.  It was also a blast to help out with the event.

This is the Place Field Trip

Image
Evan and I got to go on a field trip with the Third Graders at Sunrise Elementary to the This is the Place Heritage Park.  We had a lot of fun even though it was freezing cold that day.  We had a little excitement to start out the day when our partner bus broke down.  Luckily we were only delayed about thirty minutes because of the incident.  We were able to see some really neat things on our field trip.  First we rode a train around the park taking a general tour of the buildings and artifacts that exist on the property.  Our second stop was a lot of fun, we identified animal prints.  Our third stop was all about animal pelts.  We learned how to tan a skin and we learned how to identify all types of native animals in Utah.  Evan got to hold up the coyote pelt.  The last stop for us was to the Native American village part of the park.  We learned about some of the Native peoples of Utah, the way they lived and traditions that are still alive today.

Bear Canyon (Corner Canyon) Suspension Bridge

We went for a little hike on Labor Day to the Bear Canyon or Corner Canyon Suspension Bridge.  We kind of took a wrong turn and ended up hiking the hard way up to the bridge but it was nice to get out and enjoy some nature and man-made sights.  The bridge is pretty cool.
