2 week check-up


I took Evan in for his two-week check up today. He turned two weeks on Friday of last week. At this check-up basically, all they do is a weight check and then run the PKU screening. I was told that this is a screening for all kinds of diseases including metabolic disorders etc.


Evan weighs 9 pounds (70th percentile).
He is measuring 22.25 inches long (90th percentile).
and his head measurement was ... I don't remember but it was 25th percentile.
So basically, he's a big kid but has a tiny head.

I can't help but find myself comparing him to his older brother all of the time. What else do I know though, than my experience with Ryan? Anyway, Ryan was never above 50th percentile in height so Evan is for sure taller. And he did start out large in the weight department but didn't gain back his birth-weight quite like Evan has, so he was heavy, but I'm not sure quite 70th percentile like Evan. His head was also small and still measures about 25th percentile, although, I think they quit measuring Ryan's head anymore.

The doctor's office was full of kids with strep throat, so if you've got the symptoms, make an appointment and go get a culture swab taken. But, please, make an appointment, we were there FOREVER and I heard of two moms trying to have sick kids that didn't have appointments looked at. I really wanted to get my precious newborn out of there!

How nice it must be to have a baby that's actually on the charts. My boys still haven't caught up from being preemies. Except their heads (80-90th percentile). They've got small bodies and big heads.

Oh also, I wanted to comment on how much Evan looks like your hubby's pics. Ryan looks more like you, I think. How nice to have one for each of you.

He is so pretty! He looks so healthy too! I know, I compare Cam and Kei all the time. Kei is just a shrimp compared to Cam. I'm still working on responding to your email. It's deleted my draft TWICE! UGGG!

That is a sweet little baby you have there!! I hope you enjoy two. The baby wrap looks cool, keep us posted on what you think after you use it more often. :)

I went with a few friends on a mommy-field trip to the Spode Dish factory in Malaysia.  We had the best time and it was an experience I won't soon forget.  We met at Becky's in the morning and got our three car caravan ready to go.  We said a prayer, did a cheer and were off at about 9 am.  We crossed the border without any issues (except for toll top-up cards) and hit the road.  In about an hour we arrived at this little side-of-the-road pottery market.  It was typical of a third-world place. Baby Evan Makes his Arrival

The nurses from Alta View called me yesterday to let me know that my c-section was scheduled for 7:30am, and that we needed to be at the hospital by 6:00am. So much for sleeping in! Grandma and Grandpa took Ryan last night so that we wouldn't have to drop him off before the crack of dawn. We arrived at the hospital this morning at 6:00 as directed and got all admitted. At about 7:00 they let us know that we were being bumped because of an emergency c-section that they needed to do ahead of us. At around 8:00 they took us back to the operating room. The anesthesiologist came in and did his thing. Colin was great to help me through the whole surgery process. Our baby boy was born at 8:26 am. He weighed 8 pounds 10 ounces and was 21 inches long. He has dark hair but not tons of it and it's probably curly, I would guess. His name is Evan Miles Dean. This is Ryan and I painting letters for baby Evan. So, I guess we've made up our mind on the first name. I have a funny story to tell about Ryan. Yesterday he was playing with his little match-box cars on the table. He decided it would be fun to drive them through some "powder". So, he dumped out as much pepper as he could get out of the shaker and began driving the little truck through it. Later on he put the truck in his mouth. He quickly found out that it didn't taste so good. He kept rubbing his tongue on the couch, his blanket, and his shirt, trying to get the taste to go away. It was just too funny. I gave him some juice and that didn't work either so we eventually washed his hands and brushed his teeth to help him get rid of the pepper taste. Well, I survived my long week at work. Parent-Teacher conferences went well and I only didn't see two parents. I didn't get yelled at and my sugars stayed normal throughout the conferencing. I am so relieved
